Jasprit Bumrah immediately commanded attention upon entering the Edgbaston Cricket Ground nets. The intensity was palpable as he geared up for a demanding session of fast bowling. After a brief warm-up, the run-up was measured for a full-throttle, 20-minute spell. With several key batsmen absent, Bumrah directed his deliveries toward Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, and Karun Nair.
Bumrah skillfully challenged the batsmen, showcasing accuracy and varying his angles, going around the wicket for left-handers and utilizing the crease's width for right-handers. His mental freshness was evident, with the three-day break proving beneficial. He bowled alongside Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.
The trio, who all played in the Headingley Test, focused on purposeful training on the second day in Birmingham. They each bowled for approximately thirty minutes before practicing batting in the nets.
Siraj worked on leaves, ducks, and forward defense under the guidance of batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, while Bumrah explored various bowling styles. He practiced side-arm deliveries, slow balls, and throwdowns. His batting session saw him grow in confidence.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja continued his batting practice, and Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep impressed. Kuldeep Yadav focused on both batting and bowling. Kuldeep is leaving no stone unturned as far as preparation is concerned.
The left-arm wrist-spinner actively sought feedback and experimented with angles and lengths. The dry conditions in Birmingham could make him a valuable asset for the second Test. He looks in great physical condition, and his bowling rhythm is obvious.
Kuldeep has dedicated significant time to improving his batting. Under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, he aims to make meaningful contributions with the bat.
Following two days of intense training, the team will take a break before regrouping. The bowlers will rest, while bowling coach Morne Morkel might engage in some fun with Arshdeep and Akash Deep at the hotel. The suspense around Bumrah's availability will persist for at least 48 hours.
