Emma Raducanu, the British tennis sensation, has playfully dismissed speculations about a romantic relationship with Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz. The denial came during a pre-Wimbledon press conference, where she also confirmed their participation in mixed doubles at the upcoming US Open.
The rumors began circulating after Raducanu was seen supporting Alcaraz during his semi-final match at the HSBC Championships at Queen's Club. The pair have also been practicing together, further fueling the speculation.
When questioned about the nature of her relationship with Alcaraz, Raducanu responded, "We're just good friends."
As the reporter attempted to move on, Raducanu humorously quipped, "Way to wrap up," adding a touch of levity to the situation.
The two tennis stars recently trained together in preparation for their mixed doubles debut at the US Open. "It was fun yesterday. We were both on court...just getting some volley practice ahead of New York. I'm really happy to be playing with him. We had a great time," Raducanu said.
Raducanu also revealed that it was Alcaraz who initiated the partnership. "He asked me earlier on in the year, and I was very surprised, honoured, and excited," she explained.
Despite winning the 2021 US Open, Raducanu has since struggled to maintain consistent performance.
Alcaraz, on the other hand, has continued his ascent in the tennis world following his 2022 US Open victory, securing several major titles. He is set to begin his Wimbledon 2025 campaign against Fabio Fognini of Italy.
The upcoming US Open will mark a new chapter for Raducanu and Alcaraz as they team up in mixed doubles.
