Tottenham Hotspur have secured the services of Japanese defender Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale, the club officially announced.
The 20-year-old has inked a five-year contract with the North London side. While the club refrained from disclosing the exact transfer fee, reports indicate it to be in the region of £5 million ($6.8m).
This marks the first signing for Spurs under their new manager, Thomas Frank, who succeeded Ange Postecoglou earlier this summer.
Takai brings international experience to Tottenham, having earned four senior caps for Japan. He also represented his nation at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are reportedly preparing an improved offer for West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus, according to sources at ESPN. Their initial bid of £50m was turned down by the Hammers.
Kudus has a release clause of £85m in his contract, specifically for other Premier League clubs. However, West Ham may be willing to negotiate a lower transfer fee.
